REJOICE!
- Holiday Presentation To Be Staged
at Wicomico Library
November 14, 2009
The holiday season will be ushered
in at the Wicomico Regional Library
on November 14 at 2 PM by a dramatic
presentation that depicts the 1661
gathering of Somerset settlers to
celebrate their first Christmas in
Maryland.
These colonists, drawn to Maryland
by Lord Baltimore’s Religious Toleration
Act, left their new settlements to
gather on the banks of the Manokin
River to give thanks and to celebrate.
The drama is called Rejoice!
Author Jeanne du Nord wrote the 30-minute
script based on research she did for
her most recent book Makepeace,
that chronicles the era. There will
be a projected storyboard background
of the scenes and also a soundtrack
featuring period instruments such
as bagpipes, bombarde, serpent horn,
bodhran.
