The Princess Anne Police Department provides seven day, twenty-four hour policing coverage, and beginning in June 1997, they implemented bike patrols, which had an immediate and a positive impact on the community: bike patrols have proven to be less intimidating to residents, encouraging open communication and interaction. |

Regular foot patrols in the downtown area have also enhanced the department's policing efforts, and many officers regularly attend neighborhood and business meetings to monitor the concerns of residents and encourage community involvement. Moreover, to further add to their effectiveness, a K-9 unit is currently in development. |

On the first Tuesday in August, at the Manokin River Park, the Police Department hosts the annual National Night Out: a community block party that invites citizens to meet with neighbors, while enjoying entertainment and refreshments. During this event, the bike patrol unit heads a bike parade for children, touring the neighborhood, registering bikes, and giving away helmets. This parade, along with a radar-measured, softball pitch, are always favorites with local residents. Other agencies, such as the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Department, also provide demonstrations during this annually celebrated event. |

With the understanding that safety is a concern of all its citizens, the Police Department gives presentations at local schools on topics such as conflict resolution, abduction avoidance, and summer safety, and in keeping with this same community spirit, they annually join forces with the Princess Anne Library to provide toys for children at Christmas time. |
